Police violence against women, especially Black women, was invisible before the Campaign for justice for Rekia Boyd lit a fire among the Activists/ Advocates and her family in Chicago. But how did her name, out of all the women who have been killed by police, make it into Jesse Williams' BET acceptance speech? Come take the journey as we express our grief, trauma, and recovery through art as therapy and find out.
Director
Crista E Noël
Executive Producer and Director/Founder of Azucar Negra a WAPB Joint. Crista Noel is a social justice arm chair historian who uncovered the rich history of Black women leaders in Chicago and decided to combine that history lesson with a historical look at the Justice for Rekia Boyd campaign.
Crista’s direction encourages, and centers, the artistic talents of Editors as artists, and the raw talent of performers, “when Watching DocuArt you should feel as if you're walking through an Art Gallery of film pieces." Her documentaries seek to educate as well as provide therapeutic outlets for survivors of violence.
